Samsung Exynos 980 Chipset With 5G Integration Is Here

Samsung already has a few 5G smartphones in its arsenal — the Galaxy A90 5G, Galaxy S10 5G, and the Galaxy Note 10 5G.

These three 5G-enabled smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 855/Exynos 9820(25) paired with the Exynos 5100 and Snapdragon X50 modems which are the main components on the devices for 5G support.

However, the South Korean giant has now unveiled the Exynos 980 chipset which has 5G support within the chipset itself and Samsung would not have to use a separate 5G modem to enable 5G support on their devices.

While this is definitely something to be excited about, not everything with the new silicone is bleeding edge. The Exynos 980 is built on the 8nm FiNFET process and isn't as powerful as the Exynos 9825 or even the Exynos 9820 when it comes to raw specs.

It's also worth noting that the new processor from Samsung can support a 108 MP single camera and 20 MP + 20 MP dual cameras. On the video front, the chip supports 4K video recording at 120FPS, however, this feature is up to the OEM to enable via software.

Nonetheless, it seems that we would see a lot more 5G-enabled smartphones in 2020, however, users in some nations might not be able to make use of these 5G smartphones until a few more years.
