Realme 3 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro - Which One Should You Buy?
The budget segment of the smartphone market here in India is extremely saturated and there are a ton good smartphones available under the INR 15,000 price segment.
However, at the moment the out-and-out best budget smartphones are the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 3 Pro.
Both devices offer the best value for your money and going with either of the two will leave you satisfied with what you got.
While the two smartphones might seem absolutely similar with no differences whatsoever, that isn't really the case.
These two budget beasts have a few differences between them which would help in picking the most suitable of the two for yourself. So without much further ado, let's check out a few details of both these excellent devices.
Build and design
The Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with Gorilla Glass 5 to the front of the device as well as the back of the device which makes it the only phone in its price segment to have a glass back.
On the other hand, the Realme 3 Pro has a plastic back although it does have Gorilla Glass 5 on the front. While the Note 7 Pro does indeed have the superior build quality, the Realme 3 Pro is a tad more comfortable to hold thanks to its curved back.
Both devices do have a tiny waterdrop shaped notch and the bezels around the display are almost identical.
Performance
Each of the two pack in some incredible specifications for the price and the two of them can easily handle day to day tasks without breaking a sweat.
The Note 7 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 675 SoC which is a newer chip than the Snapdragon 710 found on the Realme 3 Pro.
In terms of raw CPU performance, the SD 675 leads the way when compared to the SD 710; however, the latter has better GPU performance which theoretically means the Realme 3 Pro should be a tad better at handling games.
Both smartphones come with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage with the base model and 6GB RAM with the top-end model along with 128GB storage.
There's not much of a difference you'd notice between the two devices in regular usage hence both devices would not disappoint in terms of performance.
Camera capabilities
The Realme 3 Pro and the Note 7 Pro both have excellent cameras for their price and are equally matched. The Note 7 Pro features dual-rear cameras which include a 48MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor.
The Realme 3 Pro does have a dual rear camera setup as well with a 16MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor similar to that of the Note 7 Pro.
Don't let the 'MP' numbers fool you since there's not a major difference between the details in images on both smartphones although the Note 7 Pro does bring in a bit more detail in images in most daylight situations; however, things take a turn in low light situations thanks to the wider f/1.7 lens on the Realme 3 Pro as it manages to hold on to more details.
Colors in images are a lot more natural and true to life on the Note 7 Pro and it handles contrast slightly better than the competition.
The dynamic range in images on both devices is almost equal and it's often a pretty close call between both devices.
Video quality on the Realme 3 Pro tends to be a tad better in most situations; however, both phones do not have EIS or OIS support when recording at 4K hence video recording is something you wouldn't much enjoy on either of the two.
On the front, the Realme 3 Pro has a 25MP selfie shooter while the Note 7 Pro has a 13MP front camera. In this department, the Realme 3 Pro is a clear winner since produces a lot more details in images.
Display
These devices have similar screen sizes at 6.3-inches hence media consumption on either of the two would be equally enjoyable.
Likewise, both devices have great displays although the Realme 3 Pro tends to produce slightly warmer colors while the Note 7 Pro is more towards the cooler side.
Nonetheless, there's not much here to compare since you'd be satisfied with either one of the devices when it comes to the display quality.
Overall features
You probably already know the Note 7 Pro comes with Xiaomi's custom skin; MIUI 10 over Android 9 Pie. MIUI 10 offers a bunch of cool customization options and has a boatload of features to offer.
The Realme 3 Pro, on the other hand, comes with the company's custom skin known as ColorOS 6.0 on top on Android Pie and is pretty decent; however, MIUI is a tad more refined and offers a bit more features.
One thing that's going for the Realme 3 Pro when it comes to software is the fact that you wouldn't see any ads in the UI which is the case with the Redmi Note 7 Pro although you could turn the ads off manually.
The Note 7 Pro also has a USB Type C port which is much more convenient and allows faster data transfer than the micro USB port found on the Realme 3 Pro.
However, the Realme 3 Pro supports the company's VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 technology which is able to charge the device from 0% to 50% in just half an hour which is even faster than the Galaxy S10.
Conclusion
The Note 7 Pro and the Realme 3 Pro are priced equally starting at INR 13,999 for the 64GB + 4GB model and INR 16,999 for the 128GB + 6GB model.
Although the Realme 3 Pro has another variant which is the 64GB + 6GB model coming in at INR 15,999; however, I'd really suggest putting in another thousand and picking the 128GB + 6GB variant instead if you're willing to go all in.
The similar pricing of the two devices is what makes picking the winner a tad more complicated. To make things easy to understand and help decide which device you should go for, here are a few things to consider.
If you're looking for a device with an overall better build quality and want a better software experience and an excellent camera, then the Redmi Note 7 Pro is the way to go. Plus, you'd also get a USB Type C port which is a bonus.
However, if you don't mind the slightly inferior build quality and want a more ergonomic smartphone which can handle games such as PUBG like a champ or if you want a smartphone that charges super quick, then the Realme 3 Pro is the phone for you.
