How To Toggle On Dark Mode In Gmail
Google's been adding a dark mode option to its apps for a few months now. Almost all major applications from Google have a dedicated dark mode at this point and finally, the option is also making its way over to the company's email client — Gmail.
First spotted by 9to5Google, the dark mode in Gmail appears to be introduced via a server-side update rather than an app update. Of course, users would still need a newer version of the Gmail application such as version 2019.08.18.267044774 or newer.
The dark mode option still isn't available for everyone, however, here's how to check if dark mode is available on your Gmail application and how to toggle it on.

Turning on the dark mode feature is fairly simple and involves just a few taps.
Important: Make sure you're running the latest version of Gmail. Head over to the Play Store → Swipe in from the left → My apps & games. If an update is available for Gmail, tap on UPDATE.
- Launch Gmail and swipe in from the left.
- Scroll down the list until you spot the Settings option — tap on it.
- Now select General settings → Theme.
- You would see three options — System default, Dark, Light.
- Select Dark.
You would now see the Gmail app switch to a dark grey theme which might be a disappointment for those looking out for an AMOLED black theme. However, even a dark grey theme helps save some battery on devices with OLED displays.
You could also select the System default theme option to change the theme of the application based on the device's theme.
